The UN special envoy for Yemen said that he is stepping up efforts to reach an expanded truce between the country’s warring sides.

Hans Grundberg told the UN Security Council in New York that he hoped efforts would lead to the start of talks on a ceasefire and preparations for resuming a Yemeni-led political process.

A two-month extension of an existing truce that began on April 2 was agreed by the internationally recognised government and Iran-backed Houthi rebels on August 2.

This has resulted in the longest pause in fighting since Yemen’s civil war began in 2014.

Several dental clinics had informed Sultan Omar Kithiri’s parents that he would need general anaesthesia to ensure he remained cooperative during the procedure, an option that most parents are concerned about.

The popular event, which got under way at the start of the month, will run until the end of September and is expected to whet the appetite of date lovers across the emirate and beyond.

The festival provides date sellers with a major platform to share their produce, plucked fresh from local farms, with the public.

Mohammed Haneef, 58, an Indian salesman from Kerala, has worked in the vast market for 40 years.

He cherishes the humble date and the role it plays in the joy of life in the Emirates.

This link between the two emirates stretches for 256 kilometres and includes 29 bridges, 60 crossings and 137 drainage channels.

However, the Abu Dhabi to Dubai segment is only part of Etihad Rail’s network, which will run for 1,200 kilometres across the UAE, from the border of Saudi Arabia to Fujairah.

Maps from Etihad Rail show the scope and ambition of the line that will eventually carry passengers, as well as freight, across the country.

A launch date for the passenger line and the exact route for this service have not yet been announced, but plans to build the first passenger station in Fujairah have been unveiled.
